The Unique Charm of Lakeview
Lakeview runs from Diversey Parkway north to Irving Park and Montrose, and from Ravenswood Avenue east to the lake. It was absorbed into Chicago in 1889, after growing from about 2,000 people to 45,000 in seventeen years, and that speed is written into the housing: block after block of low rise brick, greystone and brownstone walk ups, and vintage courtyard buildings built in a U around an open court. Seasonal lighting for an average house starts at $799 and up, depending on the complexity, height and access of the job. A single greystone or brownstone front with one street elevation is often near it. The number moves with height, since a three story cornice sits past comfortable ladder reach, with corner buildings where two elevations face the public, and with courtyard buildings quoted per elevation rather than per unit.
