Oak Brook incorporated in 1958 under Paul Butler, on land originally known as Fullersburg after the early settler Ben Fuller. About 8,163 people live here, but the daytime population is a multiple of that, because the village holds one of the densest concentrations of corporate headquarters in Illinois: Ace Hardware, Portillo's, TreeHouse Foods, Federal Signal, Blistex, CenterPoint Properties and Lions Clubs International all sit inside village limits, and McDonald's ran its headquarters here from 1971 until 2018. Oakbrook Center opened in 1962 and now carries more than 160 stores and restaurants. The Sports Core keeps polo fields, golf, tennis and swimming. The Tri State and the Reagan Memorial tollways, I-294 and I-88, frame the village.
